Colorado DMV rejects ILVTOFU Plate
Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 12:42AM
Thanks to the Huffingtonpost.com for this little gem. Kelly Coffman-Lee is a vegetarian and loves her tofu. So she thought it would be a great idea to have her license plate reflect this. She applied to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles to have a personalized license plate with the letters ILVTOFU inscribed.
To her surprise the DMV rejected her application because they felt that the combination of letters could be considered profane. Spokesman Mark Couch in explaining department policy put it this way:
"We don't allow 'FU' because some people could read that as street language for sex."
Officials meet periodically to ensure state plates stay free of letters that abbreviate gang slang, drug terms or obscene phrases.
Personally, I didn't get it right away but after being coached to think about it "their way" - I finally got it! Maybe this video clip will help you get it also (if you haven't already!!)
